RESUMEN

The complement is a crucial immune defense system that triggers rapid immune responses and offers efficient protection against foreign invaders and unwanted host elements, acting as a sentinel. Activation of the complement system occurs upon the recognition of pathogenic microorganisms or altered self-cells by pattern-recognition molecules (PRMs) such as C1q, collectins, ficolins, and pentraxins. Recent accumulating evidence shows that pentraxins establish a cooperative network with different classes of effector PRMs, resulting in synergistic effects in complement activation. This review describes the complex interaction of pentraxins with the complement system and the implications of this cooperative network for effective host defense during pathogen invasion.

Rationale: Idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (IHH) is a prevalent congenital genetic disorder with multiple inheritance patterns. IHH can manifest as normal hypogonadotrophic sexual hypofunction (nIHH) or with an abnormal sense of smell, known as Kallmann. It primarily affects the production and effectiveness of gonadotropin-releasing-hormone (GnRh), leading to reduced follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone levels. This results in infertility and underdeveloped secondary sexual characteristics. Patient Concerns: A 29-year-old female presented with infertility. Diagnosis: IHH diagnosis was confirmed through magnetic resonance (MR) scan, endocrine tests, physical examination, and B ultrasonic inspection. Additionally, genetic studies, including chromosome analysis, were conducted for the patient. The results confirmed no genetic abnormalities or concerns. Interventions: The patient underwent multiple ovulation induction programs. Outcome: After several ovulation induction cycles, the patient conceived and delivered a live baby. Lessons: For IHH patients, a tailored human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) dose is recommended. High-dose HMG can benefit those with poor follicular response. The addition of letrozole (5-7.5mg) may enhance follicular response during stimulation. Our approach, which emphasizes the combined use of high-dose HMG, letrozole, and the adjustment of FSH and LH ratios, offers a unique perspective compared to traditional treatments. If HMG treatment is ineffective, alternative ovulation induction methods, such as r-fsh combined with r-lh or HMG combined with rLH, can be considered. Adjusting the FSH and LH ratio and varying rFSH and rLH additions might help achieve dominant follicles and live birth in resistant cases. This case report underscores the potential benefits of our regimen, suggesting its consideration for future research and clinical applications.

To investigate the efficacy of foliar application of GR24, a strigolactone analogue, in alleviating low-nitrogen stress in Malus baccata, we applied GR24 with different concentrations (0, 1, 5, 10, and 20 µmol·L-1) to leaves of plants under low nitrogen stress. We evaluated the changes in photosynthetic characteristics of leaves, reactive oxygen metabolism, and nitrogen assimilation in roots. The results showed that shoot biomass of seedling significantly decreased and root-shoot ratio increased under low-nitrogen stress. The chlorophyll contents decreased, the carotenoid content increased, and the photosynthetic activity decreased. The activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase enzymes in roots changed little, while the activities of peroxidase and ascorbic acid peroxidase enzymes, along with the levels of soluble sugar, free proline, and reactive oxygen species showed a significant increase, and the soluble protein content decreased. The NO3- content in roots decreased, the NH4+ content increased, while activities of nitrate reductase and glutamine synthase decreased. Compared to the control group without GR24 application, foliar sprays of 10 and 20 µmol·L-1 GR24 under both normal and low-nitrogen increased biomass and root-shoot ratio to varying degrees. Additionally, GR24 application increased chlorophyll content, photosynthesis indices (net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate and stomatal conductance), and fluorescence (maximum photochemical efficiency of PSⅡ and quantum yield of electron transfer per unit area) performance parameters, as well as the contents of osmotic regulation substances (soluble protein, soluble sugar, and free proline) and glutamine synthase activity. Application of 10 and 20 µmol·L-1 GR24 under low-nitrogen stress decreased carotenoid, reactive oxygen species, and NH4+ contents, while increased the activities of antioxidases and key enzymes in nitrogen metabolism (nitrate reductase and glutamine synthase) and NO3- content. The 10 µmol·L-1 GR24 treatment was the most effective in alleviating low nitrogen stress, which has potential for application in apple orchards with low nitrogen soil.

Animals that live in seasonal environments adjust their reproduction cycle to optimize seasonal forage quality. Giant pandas ( Ailuropoda melanoleuca) are seasonal altitudinal migrants that feed on bamboo shoots and leaves with different nutritional quality. However, the importance of bamboo shoots to giant pandas, especially small and isolated populations, is not fully appreciated. Here, we explored whether mating time of giant pandas is shaped by bamboo shoot phenology. We also assessed the intensity of ongoing bamboo shoot harvesting by local communities in 42 giant panda reserves based on questionnaire surveys. Varying intensity and protection levels of bamboo shoot harvesting were found. From these data, we developed a priority ranking scheme of protection areas for this key food resource. Our study showed that pandas time their mating behavior to coincide with bamboo shoot phenology due to the high nutritional demands associated with mating and pregnancy. We also found that bamboo shoots were not well protected in many places. Liangshan, Daxiangling, and Xiaoxiangling, containing the most isolated panda populations, were identified as the areas with the most urgent need of protection. Furthermore, equal attention should be paid to the QiongL-B population, as this region holds considerable potential to serve as a corridor between the Minshan and Qionglai populations. To address the challenges posed by bamboo shoot harvesting, we recommend establishing more practical bamboo shoot management policies, increasing public awareness of bamboo shoot protection, and providing alternative sources of income for local communities.

An array of redox-neutral alkylation/cyclization cascade reactions of N-functionalized acrylamides with cycloalkyl hydroperoxides were achieved via the alkoxyl radical-triggered C-C bond cleavage. Through adjusting the radical acceptors on the N atom, a variety of keto-alkylated chain-containing azaheterocycles, including indolo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-6(5H)-ones, quinoline-2,4-diones, and pyrido[4,3,2-gh]phenanthridines were constructed by a one-pot procedure with good yields and excellent functional group tolerance.

Background: Gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonists (GnRH-ant) are widely used in current in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET), however, whether the lowest daily dose of GnRH-ant is individualized remains unknown. Due to the negative effect of GnRH-ant on endometrial receptivity, lessening the amount of GnRH-antagonists used during controlled ovarian stimulation may be helpful for embryo implantation. As such, a randomized controlled study is essential to validate the feasibility and efficacy of daily GnRH-ant dose reduction to 0.125 mg geared towards providing scientific evidence for guidance in clinical practice. Methods: In total, 620 infertile women undergoing in vitro fertilization will be enrolled in the multicentered, randomized, parallel controlled trial. Based on a computer-generated random list, they will be randomly and equally subdivided into half-dose GnRH-ant group or conventional-dose GnRH-ant group. The primary outcome is ongoing pregnancy ie, intrauterine pregnancy diagnosed by pelvic ultrasonography at more than 12 weeks of gestation accompanied by normal fetal heartbeats. Secondary outcomes include cycle cancellation, premature luteinizing hormone surge, positive pregnancy, embryo implantation rate, clinical pregnancy, early spontaneous abortion, and live birth. The intention-to-treat and per protocol analyses will be used to initially analyze the difference in ongoing pregnancy rate between the two groups, while the multiple imputation method was used to handle missing values in the data. Discussion: At present, no randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have been performed on the use of the half-dose GnRH-ant protocol (0.125mg/d) to improve reproductive outcomes of IVF-ET in predicted normal responder, compared to conventional-dose GnRH-ant protocol (0.25mg/d). Half-dose GnRH-ant protocol might provide a suitable clinical solution for predicted normal responder undergoing IVF treatment. Thus, it is critical to conduct a well-designed RCT to evaluate the impact of a half-dose GnRH-ant protocol on the reproductive outcomes of IVF-ET in predicted normal responder. OBJECTIVE: To identify the biological function and metabolic pathway of differential metabolites in follicular fluid of senile patients with kidney qi deficiency undergoing in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) and observe the effect of kidney-invigorating herbs on IVF outcomes in senile patients. METHODS: A total of 95 women undergoing IVF treatment were recruited and divided into three groups, including 34 cases in the treatment group (the senile patients with kidney qi deficiency after the intervention of Chinese medicine), 31 cases in the experiment group (the senile patients with kidney qi deficiency of no intervention of Chinese medicine), and 30 cases in the control group (young women with infertility due to male factor). The three groups of women were treated with long protocol ovarian hyperstimulation; the treatment group was given Qi-Zi-Yu-Si decoction on the day of HCG downregulation. Their IVF clinical outcomes were observed. The metabolites changes of kidney qi deficiency syndrome were analyzed in follicular fluid metabolomics using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). RESULTS: The syndrome score of kidney qi deficiency syndrome in the treatment group was significantly improved after treatment (P < 0.01). Compared with the experiment group, the available embryo rate and implantation rate were increased, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Progesterone, indoleacrylic acid, 2-propenyl 1-(1-propenylsulfinyl) propyl disulfide, N-acetyltryptophan, decanoylcarnitine, 20a-dihydroprogesterone, testosterone acetate, eicosatrienoic acid, 1H-indole-3-carboxaldehyde, choline, phosphorylcholine, and tryptophan were downregulated in the treatment group. Through pathway analysis, glycerophospholipid metabolism and steroid hormone biosynthesis were regulated in senile patients with kidney qi deficiency after Qi-Zi-Yu-Si decoction intervention. CONCLUSION: Qi-Zi-Yu-Si decoction can effectively improve the IVF outcome and clinical symptoms of senile patients. Follicular fluid metabolites were significantly changed in senile infertile women with kidney qi deficiency, and the mechanism by which kidney-invigorating herbs improve IVF treatment outcomes may be related to glycerophospholipid metabolism and steroid hormone biosynthesis. BACKGROUND: Infertility is a widespread global challenge. Currently, the most effective treatment strategy for infertility is in vitro fertilization (IVF), which is an assisted reproductive technique (ART). The use of IVF for assisted pregnancy dates back to the last 41 years when the first IVF baby was born. During IVF, many oocytes are obtained in an IVF cycle, and more than one embryo is formed. Subsequently, frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) is increasingly being used in IVF cycles for women in whom a fresh embryo transfer fails to result in a pregnancy, or in those who return for a second baby. However, the pregnancy success rates following FET treatment cycles are reportedly lower than in fresh embryo transfers. Therefore, recent related studies are increasing determining mechanisms of improving the sustained pregnancy rate of FET and reducing the rate of early abortion. The Gushen'antai pill (GSATP), which contains a mixture of 10 herbs, has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as a pharmacological option to prevent miscarriage. However, randomized controlled trials (RCT) have never been conducted to provide high-level clinical evidence on the clinical efficacy of GSATP. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of GSATP of hormone therapy (HT) FET cycles on pregnancy rate. METHODS: A total of 300 subjects aged between 18 and 40 years which prepared for HT cycle FET will be enrolled in the study. The patients were from five different hospitals, with 60 patients from each hospital. Patients were randomly divided into two groups, and medication was started on the day of endometrial transformation. After FET 28 days, B-ultrasound was done to determine whether to continue the medication. Baseline assessments were carried out before the trial and outcomes were collected 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 weeks of each gestational cycle. DISCUSSION: Differences in ongoing pregnancy rate, clinical pregnancy rate, implantation rate, and threatened abortion rate between the two groups will be statistically analyzed. We can finally have an objective evaluation of the efficacy of the traditional Chinese medicine Gushen'antai pills. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ChiCTR1900026737 . Registered October 20, 2019.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Magnifying chromoendoscopy (ME-CE) through the observation of pit patterns is a productive way to distinguish between neoplastic and nonneoplastic polyps. Magnifying optical enhancement technology (ME-OE) is an emerging virtual chromoendoscopy imaging technology and appeared to be a promising approach. However, this information is currently not available. This study is aimed at comparing the differential diagnostic value of ME-CE and OE for neoplastic and nonneoplastic polyps. Patients and Methods. Consecutive patients undergoing colonoscopy were randomized (1 : 1) into examination by ME-OE or ME-CE. Histopathological findings were utilized as the reference standard. Accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of two endoscopy methods were compared using ME-OE (were classified according to the JNET classification) and ME-CE (were classified according to the Kudo pit pattern classification), respectively, and the time to predict the histological polyp type was compared. And the agreements between the pathological and clinical diagnosis by ME-OE or ME-CE were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 365 polyps were found in the 220 patients included (ME-OE: 185; ME-CE: 180.202 had nonneoplastic polyps, 163 had neoplastic polyps). The diagnostic accuracy of ME-OE was higher than that of ME-CE (93% vs. 92%, p > 0.05). The average diagnosis time was lower in ME-OE than ME-CE (83 ± 26.4 s vs. 194 ± 17.7 s, p < 0.001). The agreements between the pathological and clinical diagnosis were at least substantial in both groups. CONCLUSION: ME-OE was superlative to ME-CE in predicting the histology of polyps. OE devoted classification would possibly similarly enhance the endoscopist performance. The trial is registered with ChiCT2000032075.

AIM: To investigate the suitability of a modified Hughes procedure, which consists of conjunctival flap with auricular cartilage grafting in reconstructing large full thickness upper and lower eyelid defect. METHODS: Patients with full thickness eyelid carcinoma involving more than 50% margin length who underwent surgical resection were retrospectively reviewed in the study. The defects were reconstructed using conjunctival flap with auricular cartilage grafting, covered with myocutaneous flap above. Followed-up time ranged from 12 to 24mo. Outcomes were classified as "good", "fair", and "poor" by evaluating the margin appearance, eyelid appearance, and complications. RESULTS: A total of 42 patients were enrolled in the study (26 males, 16 females, mean age, 68.6±7.7y, range: 53 to 82y). The mean defect widths measured 23.2±2.9 mm (range, 17 to 28 mm). The mean posterior lamellar defect height was 5.5±1.3 mm (4 to 8 mm). Thirty-seven patients had a "good" outcome (88.1%), 5 patients had a "fair" outcome (11.9%), and no one had a "poor" outcome. CONCLUSION: Conjunctival flap with auricular cartilage grafting and myocutaneous flap grafting is an effective procedure in reconstructing large full thickness upper and lower eyelid defect. It can not only achieve satisfied reconstruction, but also preserve intact tarsal plate of the opposite eyelid, avoiding retraction or entropion.

AIM: To retrospectively compare postoperative outcomes after primary enucleation and placement of a hydroxyapatite (HA) implant without wrapping, wrapped with auricular cartilage or donor sclera. METHODS: Medical records of patients presented as intraocular tumor or severe ocular injury were identified from the electronic medical record system. Cases underwent enucleation and HA orbital implantation were enrolled in this study and were divided into 3 groups according to the wrapping material of HA implant. Cases with autogenous cartilage caps were enrolled in group A (n=11), with donor sclera caps in group B (n=12), and without any wrapping material in group C (n=9). Follow-ups were set at 1, 2wk, 1, 3, 6, and 12mo after surgery. RESULTS: Altogether 32 cases finished the follow-up and were enrolled in this study. Three cases (27.27%) in group A, 4 cases (33.33%) in group B, and 4 cases (44.44%) in group C developed one complication each after surgery. In group A, no HA exposure occurred, but conjunctival inclusion cyst occurred in one and severe conjunctive chemosis in two cases. In group B, one HA exposure occurred, conjunctive inclusion cysts occurred in one, severe conjunctive chemosis occurred in one, and conjunctival granuloma occurred in one case. In group C, one HA exposure occurred, severe conjunctive chemosis occurred in two cases, and conjunctival granuloma occurred in one case. The case of exposure of none-wrapped implant was noted in the first 6mo after placement of the orbital implant. The case of exposure of donor sclera-wrapped implant was noted at the 12mo after placement of the orbital implant. Both exposure cases were treated successfully with conservative treatment. CONCLUSION: With low incidence of implant exposure and mild complications, auricular cartilage can be a good choice of alternative wrapping material of orbit implant with satisfied outcome.

Complement is an important innate immune defence machinery. Once dysregulated, it is often linked to pathogenesis of diverse autoimmune diseases. Artesunate (ART) is a well-known anti-malarial compound. Recently, ART has been highlighted by its potential therapeutic effects on certain complement-related autoimmune diseases. However, the underlying mechanisms are hitherto unknown. In the present study, we found that ART mediated complement interception as validated by analysis of complement haemolytic assay. In cell-based setup using dying Jurkat cells, ART-mediated complement interception was also confirmed. Further, we newly established an ELISA system selectively allowing complement activation via the classical pathway, the lectin pathway and the alternative pathway, respectively. ELISA analysis revealed that ART dose-dependently inhibited C4 activation, C3 activation and terminal complement complex assembly via the effector pathways. ART was found to blockade C1q, C3 and C5 with a lesser extent to properdin. The interaction of ART with C1q was determined to be mediated via C1q globular head region. FACS analysis using ART-conjugated mesoporous silica particles revealed that ART specifically bound the key therapeutic targets of C1q, C3 and C5 on microparticles. In conclusion, we for the first time report the anti-complement bioactivities of ART and suggest a potential therapeutic benefit of ART in the complement-related human diseases.

Sanguisorba officinalis L. is a traditional herbal plant that belongs to the genus Sanguisorba and the family Rosaceae. Two new phenolic glycosides (1-2), ten known phenolics (3-12), and six known monoterpenoid glycosides (13-18) were isolated from the roots of S. officinalis using silica gel column and preparative middle pressure liquid chromatography (MPLC). The chemical structures were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic experiments, including 1D and 2D NMR as well as HR-ESI-MS, and comparison with those reported in the literature. Compounds 3-5, and 13 were isolated from the Rosaceae family and compound 7 was obtained from the genus Sanguisorba for the first time. Additionally, all compounds were evaluated for their anti-complementary activities against the classical pathway. Furthermore, compounds 1, 5, 9, and 14 showed significant anti-complementary activities with the 50% haemolytic inhibition concentrations (CH50) values of 0.40 ± 0.03, 0.57 ± 0.01, 0.51 ± 0.07, and 0.53 ± 0.05 mM, respectively.

Properdin stabilizes the alternative C3 convertase (C3bBb), whereas its role as pattern-recognition molecule mediating complement activation is disputed for decades. Previously, we have found that soluble collectin-12 (sCL-12) synergizes complement alternative pathway (AP) activation. However, whether this observation is C3 dependent is unknown. By application of the C3-inhibitor Cp40, we found that properdin in normal human serum bound to Aspergillus fumigatus solely in a C3b-dependent manner. Cp40 also prevented properdin binding when properdin-depleted serum reconstituted with purified properdin was applied, in analogy with the findings achieved by C3-depleted serum. However, when opsonized with sCL-12, properdin bound in a C3-independent manner exclusively via its tetrameric structure and directed in situ C3bBb assembly. In conclusion, a prerequisite for properdin binding and in situ C3bBb assembly was the initial docking of sCL-12. This implies a new important function of properdin in host defense bridging pattern recognition and specific AP activation.

To explore the effects of different intercropping species on growth, nutrition absorption, and fruit quality of oriental melon, we examined plant height, stem diameter, root activity, contents of mineral elements (N, P, K, Ca and Mg), and fruit quality and yield of oriental melon under the oriental melon monoculture (MM), intercropping of fennel/oriental melon (FM), tillered-onion/oriental melon (TM), or wormwood/oriental melon (WM). Results showed that plant height of intercropping treatments was significantly higher than that of the monoculture over time. The stem diameter of the FM and TM treatments was significantly higher than that of the MM treatment, while there was no significant difference between the WM and MM treatments. At the stretch tendril stage, fruit setting stage, and fruit expanding stage, root activity of FM treatment was significantly higher than that of MM and TM treatments. The mine-ral elements contents of oriental melon plants in three intercropping treatments were higher than that in MM treatment in different degrees, with the mine-ral elements contents of FM treatment being higher than that of TM and WM treatments. The single fruit weights of FM and TM treatments did not differ from the MM treatment. The fruit quality indices of FM treatment were not lower than MM treatment, while some fruit quality indices (including the contents of glucose, fructose, and sucrose) of WM and TM treatments were lower than that under MM treatment. In summary, fennel was a suitable species for intercropping with the oriental melon.

AIM: To investigate the efficacy and safety of the treatment of endoscopic trans-ethmosphenoid optic canal decompression (ETOCD) with combination of steroid in patients with newly onset indirect traumatic optic neuropathy (ITON) and compare the outcome between immediate ETOCD treatment and ETOCD with preoperative steroid treatment. METHODS: Patients presented as newly onset ITON (suffered trauma within 3d) at a tertiary medical center between Mar 1st, 2016 and Mar 1st, 2018 were enrolled in this study. All patients were equally and randomly divided into 2 groups. Cases in group A were performed ETOCD immediately after admition while cases in group B were prescribed by methylprednisolone (20 mg/kg · d) for 3d before ETOCD. Methylprednisolone (20 mg/kg · d) was used after surgery for 6d in group A and 3d in group B. Follow-up was up to 3mo in all cases. Visual acuity (VA) before and after treatment between the two groups were taken into comparison. RESULTS: Complete postoperative data were acquired from 34 patients in group A and from 32 patients in group B. Group A had significantly higher effective rate in VA than group B (χ 2=4.905, P=0.027). CONCLUSION: For patients with newly onset ITON, combination treatment of ETOCD with high-dose steroid is an effective and safe way. Immediate surgery will lead to better prognosis for these cases.

A new secoiridoid, (1R,5S,8S,9R)-1-methyl-kingiside aglucone (1), along with nine known compounds (2-10), were isolated from the ethanol extract of the stem bark of Syringa reticulata (Bl.) Hara. The structure of compound 1 was elucidated using HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. Compounds 1-10 were evaluated for their inhibitory activity against NO, TNF-α and IL-6 production. Compounds 1, 3, 5 and 7-10 significantly inhibited the levels of NO, TNF-α and IL-6 in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells from concentrations of 3 to 30 µM.

Collectin-12 (collectin placenta 1, CL-P1, or CL-12) is a newly identified pattern recognition molecule of the innate immune system. Recent evidences show that CL-12 plays important roles not only in innate immune protection against certain clinically important pathogens but also in scavenging of host molecules, leukocyte recruitment, and cancer metastasis. Furthermore, CL-12 has been shown to be associated with the pathogenesis of human diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis lesion development. Therefore, the functional consequence of CL-12 remains intriguing and awaits further elucidation. However, available protocols for the purification of recombinant CL-12 with high purity are laborious and inefficient and hamper further functional studies. Here, we report a simple, rapid, and efficient solution to obtain biologically active CL-12 with high purity. We established stable transfected Flp-In™-CHO cells expressing the recombinant CL-12 extracellular domain in high amounts. Recombinant CL-12 was purified from cell culture supernatants using a 3-step rapid purification procedure utilizing disposable affinity and ion exchange minicolumns. Purified recombinant CL-12 adopted an oligomeric structure with monomers, dimers, and trimers and retained its binding capacity towards the A. fumigatus strain that has been described before. Furthermore, we demonstrated the opsonic properties towards eight clinical isolates of A. fumigatus strains and diverse clinically important fungal pathogens. Purified recombinant CL-12 revealed a differential binding capacity towards selected fungal pathogens in vitro. In conclusion, we demonstrate a rapid and efficient purification solution for further biochemical and functional characterization of CL-12 and reveal opsonic properties of CL-12 towards diverse fungal pathogens.

Restraint water­immersion stress (RWIS) can induce a gastric mucosal lesions within a few hours. The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is involved in the RWIS process. The present study investigated the modulatory effects and molecular mechanisms of the mPFC on gastric function under an RWIS state. Male Wistar rats were divided into four groups; namely, the control, RWIS 4 h (RWIS for 4 h only), sham­operated and bilateral­lesioned (bilateral­lesioned mPFC) groups. The gastric erosion index (EI) and gastric motility (GM) were determined, and the proteomic profiles of the mPFC were assessed by isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) coupled with two­dimensional liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry. Additionally, iTRAQ results were verified by western blot analysis. Compared with the RWIS 4 h group and the sham­control group, the bilateral­lesioned group exhibited a significantly lower EI (P<0.01). In the bilateral­lesioned group, RWIS led to a significant decrease in EI and GM. When comparing the control and RWIS 4 h groups, 129 dysregulated proteins were identified, of which 88 were upregulated and 41 were downregulated. Gene Ontology functional analysis demonstrated that 29 dysregulated proteins, including postsynaptic density protein 95, were directly associated with axon morphology, axon growth and synaptic plasticity. Ingenuity pathway analysis revealed that the dysregulated proteins were mainly involved in neurological disease signaling pathways, including the NF­κB and ERK signaling pathways. These data indicated that the presence of the mPFC exacerbates gastric mucosal injury in awake rats during RWIS. Although the quantitative proteomic analysis elucidated the nervous system molecular targets associated with the production of gastric mucosal lesions, such as the role of PSD95. The underlying molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity need to be further elucidated.
